Evaluations

Feeding evaluations help us understand your child’s relationship with eating and mealtimes. Our therapists use observation, family input, and evidence-based tools to assess oral motor skills, swallowing safety, sensory responses to food, and overall mealtime behaviors. We look at both the physical and emotional aspects of feeding, identifying strengths and challenges that may impact nutrition, growth, and daily routines. From this evaluation, we design a personalized plan to support safe, positive, and stress-free mealtimes for your child and family.

Food restriction

Food restriction happens when a child consistently eats only a very limited range of foods, avoids entire food groups, or becomes distressed when offered new foods. This can go beyond typical “picky eating” and may affect nutrition, growth, or family mealtime routines.

Feeding therapy helps children with food restriction feel safe and supported as they gradually expand what they’re comfortable eating. Through use of play-based and sensory-friendly approaches, we create positive food experiences that reduce stress, build confidence, and encourage curiosity. Together with families, we work toward making mealtimes more balanced, nourishing, and enjoyable.

A.R.F.I.D

A.R.F.I.D (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)
A.R.F.I.D is more than just “picky eating.” Children with A.R.F.I.D may avoid foods due to sensory sensitivities, fear of choking or vomiting, or little interest in eating at all. This can lead to highly limited diets that affect nutrition, growth, and overall well-being.

In feeding therapy, we take a gentle, step-by-step approach to help children feel safe around food while addressing the underlying causes of their avoidance. Through play, sensory exploration, and family-centered strategies, we support each child in expanding their diet, reducing mealtime stress, and building a healthier relationship with food.
